YMCA Youth Sports Programs - Everybody Plays, Everybody Wins

In YMCA Youth Sports, the emphasis is on fun, participation, skill development, safety, teamwork, fair play and family involvement. Each participant plays at least half of every game!  League standings are not always recorded nor are there always a championship or all-star team.

Program progression is a very important part of YMCA Youth Sports.  Equipment and rules are modified to accommodate the young athlete and provide a safe, fun environment.

Each player receives a team jersey, quality coaching and playing time in each game. Game equipment is provided.

Our Financial Assistance

We pledge that; subject to available resources, no child will be turned away due to an inability to pay a fee

Values

Our sports programs focus on the character development values of CARING, RESPECT, HONESTY, RESPONSIBILITY, FAITH and FITNESS in our policies, programs and collaborative partnerships.

Principles

The YMCA of Tuscaloosa County, Inc. will consider the following organizational principles while planning, setting policies, and developing programs.  We deem these goals to be vital in our efforts to strengthen the community.

Our YMCA will be governed by committed and active volunteers and managed by trained, competent and professional staff.

We will fund our programs and services through pursuit of contributions and affordable membership and program fees.

Programs and policies shall recognize members as the foundation of our YMCA and strive to develop progressive long-term relationships with them.

We will demonstrate our commitment to the character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in our youth, teen, adult and family programs.

League Design

Teams are organized by age group, and depending on the sport and age of participant, may be subject to the YMCA of Tuscaloosa County's mandatory player draft rules.  Practice is held once or twice a week at a site chosen by the coach. Coaches are volunteers from our community and are generally parents of players.

Rules and equipment are modified and age appropriate. Game equipment and team jerseys are provided by the YMCA. Games are generally played Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with some weekend play depending on the sport and season.  Locations are dependant upon the sport and season.

Participation & Volunteers

Participation is open to all members of the West Alabama community and does not require YMCA membership.  Program fees very depending on the sport.

YMCA teams are co-ed and rely on volunteer coaches and referees. If you want to make a difference in the life of a child, call your local YMCA and be a coach!
