The Central Branch YMCA is Japan International Karate Center and Kumdo Dojo for martial arts.

The Japan International Karate Center was founded in 1962 upon these precepts:

• Uphold the principles of propriety and courtesy

• Cultivate the spirit of effort

• Perfect a mind of patience

• Live the way of truth

• Do not lose self-control or act in a violent manner.

Enjoy the benefits of discipline, physical fitness, concentration, meditation, relaxation, and weight control that training at the JIKC can offer. The purpose of JIKC training is not to conquer others, but to conquer the weaknesses within oneself.

Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday - 5:30 - 6:30pm

Friday - 6:00 - 7:00pm

$16.00 per month YMCA Members

$25.00 per month program participants

Kumdo "The Way of the Sword"

Korea Traditional Swordsmanship Association

Kumdo is an art of spirit and momovement.

  • Build tenacious spirit and concentration

  • Develop powers of resolution and endurance

  • For both men and women of all ages

Classes and fees:

Monday / Wednesday / Friday - 10:00 - 11:00am

Tuesday / Thursday - 11:00 - Noon

Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday - 6:30 - 7:30pm

Friday - 5:00 - 6:00pm

Cost:

$60.00 per month (Must be YMCA members)

 

YMCA Personal Training Rates

Ten Sessions - $200.00

Five Sessions - $100.00

Individual Sessions - $30.00 per session

 

YMCA Athletic Development Program

Our Goal: To provide Tuscaloosa area student-athletes with quality, safe and results oriented sports performance training.

The program consists of two groups:

1)  Youth Training Program - grades 4-6

2)  Middle/High School Training Program - grades 7-12

Each program will work on 5 components of developing athleticism:

Mobility and Flexibility - maintain/restore proper joint range of motion.

Speed and Agility - drills to maximize linear and multi-directional movement.

Strength - improve strength/mass ratio with the 3 strength principles:

Maximum Effort - Moving maximal weight.

Dynamic Effort - Moving sub-maximal weight as fast as possible.

Repetition Effort - Moving sub-maximal weight for as many reps as possible.

Conditioning - work capacity increased through proper conditioning.

Nutrition - nutrition education to maximize recovery and body composition.
